Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Uses 100,000 Twitter Followers to Enhance Patient Care

Plastic Surgeon in Atlanta Closes in on 100,000 Twitter Followers

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 22, 2012

Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy now has 100,000 followers on Twitter and is now one of the most followed active plastic surgeons on the social network. Dr. LeRoy has consistently been an early adopter of technology, as he was one of the first Atlanta practices to have a website in 1996. He’s committed to having a strong online presence in order to facilitate doctor-patient communication and improve the experience of his patients.

Whether patients are looking for a particular restaurant in the city or a cosmetic surgical procedure like breast augmentation in Atlanta, he says patients are now using the Internet to access a majority of the information they need, and he hopes to fulfill that need by keeping them up to date with the latest advancements in plastic surgery technology.

As more people begin to use social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, Dr. LeRoy plans to continue utilizing the platforms to enhance patient care and provide more consistent access to valuable educational resources. For example, he says patients interested in a plastic surgery procedure like eyelid surgery now have a wealth of information about recovery time and expectations for the procedure right at their fingertips.

Dr. LeRoy adds that patients can also directly contact qualified, experienced professionals for expert advice, a process that has been expedited by the introduction and development of social media. “Social Media is personal. Patients can ask questions and get expert opinions now as opposed to throwing their question out on a message board, as done previously, and receiving feedback from unknown individuals.”

Reaching 100,000 Twitter followers presents a unique chance to provide a vast number of patients with the information they need regarding plastic surgery and its benefits, says Dr. LeRoy. He adds that he hopes to continue striving for personalized, quality patient care as he expands the reach of his practice.

Catholic School Officials Gather in San Antonio to Begin the Revitalization Of U.S. Catholic Schools

Catholic School Officials Gather in San Antonio to Begin the Revitalization Of U.S. Catholic Schools

(PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Catholic school administrators gathered in San Antonio February 8 to address new research and important opportunities in the growth of the U.S. Catholic school system. Hosted by the consulting firm O’Meara Ferguson, Whelan and Conway (O’Meara Ferguson), the three-day event, “Sustaining the Mission: Integrating Finance, Development, Planning, and Operations to Strengthen Catholic Education” will assist Catholic school systems in designing financial management plans while maintaining their Catholic mission and identity.

The symposium follows the recent release of “Revitalizing Catholic Schools”, a report by O’Meara Ferguson that provides statistical analysis of more than 400 Catholic schools throughout the Midwest. This data analyzes financial and operational data in Catholic schools, identifying key opportunities for financial success. Findings from the report include:

Many struggling Catholic schools do not have enough students enrolled at the right tuition rates to pay the bills while addressing mounting maintenance and fixed operating costs. In many situations, especially at older schools, pastors and principals see additional students as added costs for teachers, aides, and supplies; and so are reluctant to increase enrollment. This zero sum game approach leads to underutilized schools with empty seats and lost opportunities for thousands of children.

Underutilized schools, long thought to be the result of changing demographics and higher tuition rates, are in truth a management opportunity. While demographics and increasing costs may indeed play a role in the demand for Catholic education, enrollment is in fact, far more dependent on management behavior and sound revenue management practices.

Began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller at the San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest continually functioning church in North America, and continuing at the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter, the symposium brings together 50 school systems from across the country, joined by their goal to proactively address these challenges, other issues and new opportunities specific to the Catholic school system.

“The goal of our work is to collect and analyze real time school data in order to provide mechanisms that drive positive results,” said Patrick O’Meara, President and Founder of O’Meara Ferguson and co-author of the report.

Each attendee, in addition to hearing expert speakers and peer commentary, will receive a new publication from O’Meara Ferguson, “Sustaining the Mission: A Manual to Revitalize Our Catholic Schools”. A “manual” for attendees, it provides diagnostics, exercises and strategies that address the conditions revealed in the initial report.

“We’re sharing the tools to develop practical, actionable solutions that yield sustainable operating and capital structures which can provide contemporary solutions and new opportunities to millions of students, their educators, and thousands of parishes across the country,” O’Meara said.

About O’Meara Ferguson Whelan and Conway

Our mission is to provide Catholic organizations with advice and counsel on the best possible use of their temporal resources as they work to further their missions. O’Meara, Ferguson, Whelan, and Conway integrates specifically crafted financial strategies, unmatched access to capital financing alternatives, investment management advice, and stewardship-based fundraising counsel to manage and leverage financial assets to build our clients’ fiscal strength and independence.

National Wildlife Federation Introduces Game Apps for Kids

National Wildlife Federation Introduces Game Apps for Kids

Click the Birdie Inspires Interest in Nature

Reston, VA (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

Raccoons are among the most adaptable of all animal species, and the National Wildlife Federation’s (NWF) raccoon mascot, Ranger Rick, is showing his adaptability as he enters the digital world. For over 40 years, Ranger Rick magazine has entertained and educated generations of children about the wonders of nature. Now NWF is introducing game apps for kids so they can continue to have fun while learning about wildlife and wildlife habitat in a new delivery platform.

“National Wildlife Federation knows kids are into their electronic devices,” said Mary Dalheim, Editorial Director of Children’s Publications for NWF. “We want to use those devices to educate kids and stimulate curiosity about the natural world so kids can take what they have seen or learned virtually out into the real outdoors.”

The apps are available for playing on iPad, iPhone, iPod and other devices. Each one comes with a free abbreviated version; full versions cost 99 cents to $ 1.99. All proceeds from the sale of these apps goes to support National Wildlife Federation’s conservation work to protect wildlife and wildlife habitat.

Raiders of the Lost Aardvark – for kids 7 and older – The action never stops in this thrilling game of mystery and mummies. Archaeologist Jack Snare has just discovered a rare mummified aardvark. But en route to the Natural Science Museum in Africa, Snare’s precious new find is stolen! Kids join Ranger Rick to track down clues to solve the mystery of the missing aardvark. On the adventure, kids visit different habitats all over Africa including a savanna, a rainforest, highlands, and the site of a mighty waterfall. They meet the awesome wildlife that live in these habitats and learn interesting trivia about plants and animals. (Available for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch.)

Click the Birdie – for kids 7 and older – In this game, kids become star nature photographers as they travel with Ranger Rick to six wild habitats across the United States including a Cypress Swamp, Arizona desert, and the Hawaiian islands. In each habitat children put their camera skills to the test by snapping pictures of fast-flying birds.

Players score points, learn amazing wildlife facts and are encouraged to go outside to photograph the birds and wildlife in their yard and community. This approach is similar to that taken in Ranger Rick magazine where kids are given activities to help them explore the wildlife where they live. In this way kids go from being passive learners/players to active nature explorers. (Available for iPad.)

Kara Marie L, age 10, says “I LOVE it! It’s a fantastic game. I didn’t even know that Hawaii was home to an endangered bird.”

Matthew S, age 11, says “This game is awesome! It’s educational, funny, and has a perfect amount of challenge. All in all, this game is very cool.”

What Did Snakey Eat? – for kids ages 2 to 5 – In this irresistibly silly game, pre-schoolers help Sammy the Skunk figure out what his friend Snakey ate by matching the shape in Snakey’s belly to one of the suggested objects. Did he eat an umbrella? A tricycle? Or even a giraffe? The game provides instant mobile fun that will captivate kids imaginations, fine-tune their visual recognition skills, and might even make them wonder what real snakes eat. Available for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch – coming soon on other devices.

Michele says, “My 4-year-old absolutely loves this game app. She squeals with delight every time a new object appears in Snakey’s belly!”

Hannah says, “My 4-year-old loved Snakey from the start. The best part for me was watching him sit on the bed with his 2-year-old sister, letting her answer the questions while he operated the game for her. I’ve never seen them share so well!”

To start your wildlife adventure on NWF’s apps go to http://www.nwf.org/kidsapps.

“National Wildlife Federation’s Be Out There campaign is all about getting kids outside and connecting with nature, but sometimes that outdoor adventure needs to start inside,” concluded Dalheim. “These apps can provide an introduction to the world of nature and inspire kids to get outside to check out the real thing.”

Application Window for New Top-Level Domain Names Successfully Passes One-Week Mark

Application Window for New Top-Level Domain Names Successfully Passes One-Week Mark

ICANN logo

Marina del Rey, California (PRWEB) January 19, 2012

One week after the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began accepting applications for new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs), the application system is functioning without a hitch.

“I can state firmly that one week into the process, the application system for the new domain names is functioning just as it should,” said Rod Beckstrom, ICANN’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “This is a reflection of the careful planning, hard work and long hours our staff spent preparing for last week’s launch.”

At one minute past midnight (UTC) on Thursday, 12 January, ICANN began accepting applications for new generic Top-Level Domains, beginning one of the biggest changes in the Internet’s evolution.

The new program will greatly expand the current 22 Top-Level Domains (such as .com, .gov and .net) to include almost any word or name. It also allows, for the first time, non-Latin language scripts such as Arabic, Chinese and Cyrillic to be used in a gTLD.

“I couldn’t be more pleased,” said Michael Salazar, Director of the New gTLD program. “ICANN spent six years working to ensure it got this program right and we worked particularly hard to make certain the application portion of the program went smoothly.”

As of today (January 19), there are 25 successful registrants in the online TLD Application System. However, this number does not necessarily represent the total number of applications since each registrant can apply for up to 50 new generic Top-Level Domains.

The deadline to register in the TLD Application System is 29 March. If applicants are not registered in the system by that date, they will be unable to apply.

In early May, approximately two weeks after the new gTLD application window closes, ICANN will publish a list of the applications and who has applied for which domain name.

Until then, ICANN will not comment publicly about any specific application, the total number of applications received, or who has submitted applications.

Initial processing of the applications is expected to be completed in mid-November 2012 and the first new generic Top-Level Domains are expected to be online sometime in early 2013.

About ICANN: ICANN’s mission is to ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet you have to type an address into your computer – a name or a number. That address has to be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination we wouldn’t have one global Internet. ICANN was formed in 1998. It is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet’s unique identifiers. ICANN doesn’t control content on the Internet. It cannot stop spam and it doesn’t deal with access to the Internet. But through its coordination role of the Internet’s naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet. For more information please visit: http://www.icann.org.
